Better Futures I'm very pleased to have been involved with some particularly worthwhile projects. I've valued working for the Northern Devon Coast and Countryside Service and the South West Protected Landscapes Forum, both of which are involved in shaping and protecting our local landscape. I helped build the website of the
Urban Angels
Modelling Agency, a new concept in child modelling, an agency
with a strong
philosophy of reflecting diversity and illustrating
unity, aiming to break down stereotypes and to see all kids conveyed
as equals no matter what race or ability. Most importantly, I'm trying to make a difference by being an active member of the Green Party. Predictably I'm the webmaster for our North Devon group, and also the newsletter editor. I also help with local doorstep campaigns, developing local policies, and supporting election campaigns. 12.5% of North Devon voted Green in the last local election. I've found local people to be very well-informed on pressing issues such as Climate Change, and they're as frustrated as I am with the lack of political will to make the right decisions, to put the people and the planet before the whims of big business. Increasingly, Greens are being elected at a local level all over the country, and we aim to put social justice, the environment and planning for the future back into politics. I also work part-time for the Association of Green Councillors, promoting, assisting, and sharing best practice amongst the several hundred Green Councillors in England and Wales. Central to this work is a private website and email list where we share resources and discuss issues. |
